Gold Medal Lofts

Racine,

Wisconsin

SEPTEMBER 3, 2020

Windows: H450 Awning, H450 Picture Window, and Arch-Head Picture Window

Doors: Custom designed wood-clad Aluminum Doors

The Gold Medal Lofts are a historical redevelopment of the former Gold Medal Furniture building, which was originally built in 1909. This former manufacturing building, purchased by developer J. Jeffers & Co, is part of a two building complex that will be turned into workforce housing over a series of two phases. General Contractor, Greenfire Management, worked with Quaker Windows & Doors authorized dealer Gordon Solutions to bring back the historic steel-look of the former windows with the modern architectural strength of aluminum by incorporating Quaker’s H450 historic series windows. The narrow SDL grids simulate the design of the original windows, while the narrow sight lines allow for the maximum view for the inhabitants inside.

Gold Medal Furniture, founded in 1890 was best known for making camping furniture, including cots and chairs. The cots were standard issue for the US Army and National Guard, but it was the director’s chairs that they sold to Hollywood companies for which they became well known. In 1987, Gold Medal Furniture company closed this location, and consolidated its manufacturing to a single location in Tennessee, leaving the building complex in Racine open until the recent renovation.
